The CIBSE Young Engineer Awards recognise the best new talent entering the building services industry together with those businesses that go the extra mile to support and nurture them.

Josie Cheesman, named CIBSE Apprentice of the Year Degree (level 5-7), beat six other apprentices to her title. She is working as an Apprentice Building Services Design Engineer in WSP's London office in a role that allows her to combine work with study. Josie is in her third year at London South Bank University, and her apprenticeship started in 2019 after A-levels.

Harry Playfair, CIBSE Apprentice of the Year Technician (level 3-4), is a Building Services Design Engineer apprentice at NG Bailey. He started his apprenticeship in 2019 and is currently studying for an HNC in Building Services Engineering, where he is on track to complete the course with a distinction. Harry is currently part of NG Bailey's team working on the refurbishment and restoration of the Grade 1 listed Manchester Town Hall. He beat four other apprentices to the title.

Lucy Sherburn, CIBSE ASHRAE Graduate of the Year, works for FairHeat, where she has contributed to research, collaborative team exercises and client engagements. Lucy is also involved in several industry groups and committees. She has a passion for making the construction industry more attractive to women and young engineers and beat seven other candidates to the title after impressing the panel of judges with her five-minute live presentation.

chapmanbdsp won the Medium-sized category and overall award for Employer of the Year. The consultant beat FairHeat, winner of the small category company, and ATAL Engineering Group, winner of the large category company, and first category winner from Hong Kong, to the overall title.

CIBSE President Kevin Kelly said: “The winners of these awards show the impressive and diverse engineering talent that is flourishing and contributing to the building services industry.

“They highlight the different paths young engineers are taking to the industry and recognise the crucial role of the businesses, such as chapmanbdsp.
