  • Mitie has been awarded the best ranking possible, a ‘negligible risk’ score, by leading ESG rating agency, Sustainalytics
  • With a score of 9.8, Mitie is now ranked in the top 2% of businesses globally and first in the Business Support Services industry
  • The rating marks the third time in two months that Mitie has been upgraded by an ESG ratings agency

Mitie has received the top score from Sustainalytics, one of the leading global environment, social and governance (ESG) ratings agencies, achieving a score of 9.8. This score, ’negligible risk’, is the best category that a business can achieve on the Sustainalytics rating system and demonstrates the significant improvement Mitie has made in just one year. Since March 2020, Mitie has improved by two positions, from a ‘Medium Risk’ ranking.

The score puts Mitie among the top 2% most sustainable businesses in the world, with a global ranking of 88 out of 13,404 organisations, as well as being number one in the business support services industry.

Mitie’s ranking refers to it being at ‘negligible risk’ of any significant financial impacts from ESG factors, as a result of its strong performance and processes in these areas, including robust corporate governance.

The scoring follows a recent trend of Mitie rising through the ranks with ESG ratings agencies. For example, in December 2020, Mitie was awarded an ‘A-’ Climate Change score by CDP, moving it from an ‘awareness’ level to a ‘leadership’ level in just one year. Similarly, in the same month Mitie was upgraded from an ‘A’ to an ‘AA’ score by MSCI.

Receiving these ratings demonstrates the significant progress that Mitie has made over the past twelve months, following the launch of its Plan Zero commitment in February 2020 to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2025. This includes creating an award-winning fleet of electric vehicles (EVs), with more than 900 Mitie EVs already on the road, switching its office locations to renewable energy* and launching multiple new services – such as the Plan Zero City Landscaping Service and Zero Carbon, Zero Cost model – to help its customers reduce their emissions.

Simon King, Director of Sustainability and Social Value, Mitie, said: “Since the launch of Mitie’s Plan Zero commitment in February 2020, we’ve been on a mission to drive sustainability at speed. And though we are still on the first leg of that journey, we’re proud to see our efforts recognised by the investor community. We look forward to pushing ourselves, further, faster, to reach net zero carbon, and help our customers reduce their emissions too.”
