Skin and surface hygiene specialist, GOJO Industries-Europe, is a strong advocate of making hand hygiene second nature to everyone and is proud to support Global Handwashing Day. This worldwide awareness day falls on 15th October, and this year the theme is “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together.”

The pandemic highlighted the importance of handwashing for reducing the spread of disease and protecting health. However, recent US reports[1] have indicated that handwashing has fallen to pre-Covid levels. As the world moves beyond the pandemic and into a new normal, it is crucial that the momentum is maintained in order to move towards universal hand hygiene and increased public health.

Chris Wakefield, Managing Director UK & Ireland, GOJO Industries-Europe Ltd comments, ‘Now restrictions are lifting, we must work hard to ensure that people don’t become complacent about hand washing or sanitising. It’s all too easy to slip back into old habits, even though it is common knowledge that the simple act of hand hygiene can break the chain of infection and help prevent the spread of harmful germs.’

He continues, ‘Here at GOJO, we remain committed to encouraging everybody to practise good hand hygiene and applaud educative and awareness raising efforts, such as these by The Global Handwashing Partnership, to help influence behaviour change. Providing effective, pleasant-to-use products like PURELL® hand sanitiser in just the right place is key to helping healthy practices to flourish and building better habits for the future.’
