  • Smart technology is helping to prevent pest infestations occurring in the first place.
  • Businesses large and small are investing in smart, sustainable rodent solutions that are able to monitor and control 24 hours a day.

Rentokil Pest Control has launched a white paper, Smart, sustainable rodent control for the 21st century, which highlights that damage caused by rodent infestations amounts to £6.9 billion globally every year1. As rodents adapt and develop resistance to conventional pest control measures, it is imperative for businesses to harness the power of technology to effectively help to combat them.

Unlike conventional rodent traps, PestConnect devices provide the earliest possible warning of rodent activity, allowing rodents to be controlled before they breed in large numbers. If a device is triggered, a technician will be alerted by SMS and will deal with it effectively, providing businesses with the peace of mind of around‑the‑clock protection.

Leveraging technology allows for real-time data analysis and predictive modelling, and helps to give a deeper understanding of their behavioural patterns, in order to prevent further activity. It also helps to decrease the impact that pest control has on the environment and on non-target creatures, by delivering a reduction in rodenticide use of up to 40%.

Globally over 200,000 devices are already live, with the largest individual customer deployments reaching over 1,000 devices, an unprecedented level of data and detail on pest behaviour is being collated.

Rentokil is also piloting the use of image recognition technologies and machine learning to automate the tracking of individual rodents, enabling pest control professionals to implement targeted control measures.

Paul Blackhurst, Head of Technical Academy at Rentokil Pest Control comments: “The importance of technology in pest control cannot be overstated. Today, we have access to SMART, interconnected pest control solutions that enable continuous monitoring and management of pests. These advancements are undoubtedly beyond recognition compared to what previous generations had at their disposal. Embracing innovation in pest control is not just an option; it is a necessity to address the challenges posed by the burgeoning rodent population and for creating a safer and healthier environment for all.”

Rentokil is working to help businesses to make informed decisions and to implement sustainable, connected pest control where appropriate.
