JLA, a UK market leader in critical assets supply and support for 50 years, has published its 2022 sustainability report – an industry‑first.

The Ripponden‑headquartered firm, whose 22,000‑strong customer base includes care homes, housing associations, universities and NHS sites across the UK, has highlighted its critical support for organisations vital to the UK’s social infrastructure.

The report details significant progress in decarbonisation, energy bill reduction and green technology adoption. It also confirms JLA’s commitment to longer‑term sustainability through innovation, focusing on cost and energy‑saving benefits.

Highlights from JLA’s 2022 Sustainability Report include:

  1. An eight million kWh reduction in customer energy use
  2. A saving of 276 million litres of water by the use of its OTEX cool‑wash ozone disinfection system
  3. A reduction in distance travelled to customer sites by 24% due to the use of FLS route planning software
  4. Decreased downtime due to a 68% increase in problems fixed remotely on connected machines than on comparable non‑connected equipment.

JLA also has a clear mission to help its customers navigate the path to decarbonisation through expert guidance, a range of low‑ to no‑carbon emission heating solutions and more innovative, efficient appliances.

Its proprietary OTEX ozone disinfection technology reduces the environmental impact and energy bills of commercial laundries across the UK – using less hot water without compromising wash quality. The highly acclaimed portable ozone room sanitiser is helping housing associations protect residents from damp and mould issues – a priority for the sector following the introduction of Awaab’s Law.

Ben Gujral, CEO of JLA JLA's CEO, Ben Gujral, said: “Over the past two years, we have been working to embed an environmental, social and governance (ESG) framework at the heart of our business.

“For us, sustainability is not just a buzzword but a real commitment to change. It is about making responsible decisions today that deliver a better tomorrow for our colleagues, customers, shareholders, the communities we serve, and the environment.”

Jill Young, Operations Director at Vida Court, says, “JLA Connect’s focus on sustainability enables our team to keep track of usage and energy bill estimates in real‑time, view the most efficient times to run our machines and see how much OTEX saves us on an ongoing basis.

“For example, in one recent 30‑day period, we saw a £900 reduction in energy costs, simply by using ozone disinfection instead of thermal.”

Looking ahead to 2024, CEO Ben Gujral is committed to driving sustainability further by extending the roll‑out of JLA’s innovative digital propositions to help its customers navigate the challenging path to decarbonisation whilst continuing to electrify JLA’s van fleet.
