Burg‑Wächter's Secure Communities Scheme Foils Would‑Be Thieves At Outdoor Adventure Charity

Burg‑Wächter UK's 'Secure Communities Scheme' is keeping would‑be thieves at bay at an outdoor adventure charity’s base near London. The company received an application from Access Adventures’ Edge Adaptive Sport Centre for the free‑of‑charge support that the security specialist’s Secure Communities Scheme provides. Wishing to assist the charity, Burg‑Wächter donated a variety of lock types to keep the specialist sporting equipment secure that the charity offers for use by people with a disability.

Access Adventures inspires and enables people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities to get involved in adaptive adventure sports. The charity makes adventure sports accessible and affordable for all, allowing anyone with a disability to gain from the transformational benefits of being active. The organisation uses adventure sports as a rehabilitation tool to improve physical and mental wellbeing.

Having carefully assessed the charity’s security needs, Burg‑Wächter came up with a package of locks including armoured steel block padlocks specially designed for the container type in which the equipment is housed; combination locking cable for the premises’ gates; padlocks suitable for a ski locker, a front gate override and an electric box; and a digital door lock with a ‘hold back’ function.

Tim Farr, Fundraising Manager at Access Adventures comments: “All our equipment is stored at our base in two outdoor storage units. We have valuable specialist items including waterskis, kayaks, boats, bikes and more. If this equipment were to be stolen it would be devastating, and as much of it is custom‑built, it is extremely hard to replace. We’re therefore very grateful for Burg‑Wächter's donation. Applying for it was simple. I went onto the company’s website and followed the link to its Secure Communities Scheme. Then all I had to do was to email some details to an address given there.”

Burg‑Wächter's Secure Communities Scheme gives regional community leaders and volunteers the chance to win a security kit worth up to £200 for their organization. Any regional initiative that is run by or supports the local community can apply.

Burg‑Wächter launched the scheme in recognition of the fact that people around the country who are doing their bit for their community should not have to worry about the security of their premises, equipment or storage areas. The company's Secure Communities Scheme is its way of saying thank you to community leaders for supporting people in their area.

The type of project or organisation that the scheme is open to is very wide‑ranging. It could be a scouts group; a local sports group like a cycling or football club; a school after‑hours club; a hospital or healthcare community programme; a provider of events for children or pensioners; a facilitator of village activity; or a town/village charity. As long as the initiative is run by or supports the local community, and it has a specific security need Burg‑Wächter would like to hear about it. Successful applicants will each receive a tailored security kit to help secure property, premises, equipment or storage areas to the value of £150 - £200 at retail price.

The Secure Communities Scheme is an ongoing initiative, which has already helped over 100 regional causes through the provision of over 2,000 pieces of security equipment.
